An automatic chicken feeder should mean one thing: your hens always have clean, dry feed in front of them without you topping up a bowl every morning. Two sizes of automatic feeder for US flocks
- Small Automatic Feeder 6 lb: holds about 6 lb (2.6 kg) of feed. Suits lower coops, chicken tractors and small flocks.
- Large Automatic Feeder 8 lb: holds about 8 lb (3.7 kg). The pick for most backyard flocks where the coop has the height for it, because it needs filling less often.
Both come in white; the Large Feeder also comes in red (The Big Red). The Small Feeder suits 2-6 hens and the Large Feeder 6-8. For larger flocks, two or more feeders spaced apart keep the bullies from guarding a single bay. For a complete setup, our feeder and waterer kits add a matching automatic waterer.
How often will I need to fill it?
That depends on your flock and what you feed. Allow about 3 oz (90 g) per bird per day on quality complete pellets, and divide the feeder's capacity by that and by your number of birds. The point of the larger hopper is fewer trips to the coop, and the point of the enclosed design is that the feed you put in is the feed your hens eat, not the feed the sparrows and rats find on the ground.
How the gravity-fed design works

- Built-in paddles: help stop birds making a mess and wasting feed
- Built-in rain hood: channels water away from the opening, so feed stays dry outdoors
- Wall mounted on steel brackets: mounts flat to the wall, so it does not take up floor space

Every component is injection molded in Brisbane and assembled by hand in Townsville. Industrial-grade UV-resistant ASA handles sun and rain year after year and is engineered to resist color fading and UV degradation. No weak points like glue or screws, and no moving parts to break or corrode.
Installation
Steel brackets and self-tapping screws for wood or metal are in the box. Mount the feeder with the bottom of the feeding opening level with the back of your hen's neck when she stands naturally. Fitting takes only a few minutes. If the feed looks low in the bay once the birds start eating, that is normal: as long as you can push a finger in and move the feed, they can reach it.
